The perfect wellness drink
Did you know that Turmeric Latte comes from an ancient Ayurvedic tradition? The latte you can get at your local coffee shop is a mainstream version of the traditional drink called; Golden Milk.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is an ancient holistic medical system from India, developed more than 2000 yrs ago. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurveda is all about prevention and encourages a personalised healthy diet and lifestyle based on your body type.
Ayurvedic medicine is considered as complementary and alternative medicine, and there are many practitioners all over the world today.
Golden Milk and the benefits
Golden Milk is a delicious drink with warming spices. A great, comforting drink on cold days.
The “real deal” Golden Milk has some wonderful healing benefits, is anti-inflammatory, and high in antioxidants. It’s wellness in a cup.
Now… before you start getting all excited and drink turmeric lattes until you see yellow; unfortunately your mainstream coffee shop turmeric latte doesn’t have the same medicinal properties. It’s generally loaded with sugar, and the serving size is way too big. Not good if you’re trying to be healthy and being mindful of your waist size.
So what do you do? Just make it yourself. It only takes 5 minutes and is super easy.
How do you make it?
There are several ways to prepare your homemade Golden Milk. I’ll stick to the more traditional method that I prefer, which doesn’t require any other kitchen equipment than a saucepan, spoon, and a small strainer.

Description
5-minute vegan Golden Milk, the perfect wellness drink.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Non-dairy milk
- 1/2 tsp Ground Turmeric
- 1 pod Cardamom slightly broken
- 1 Clove
- 1–2 cm Cinnamon Stick
- 2–3 Black Peppercorns
Optional Ingredients
- 1 tsp Ginger roughly chopped
- 1/4 tsp Coconut Oil
Instructions
- Put all ingredients, except coconut oil, in a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
- Stir, lower heat and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
- Turn off heat and add coconut oil.
- Strain into your cup.
Notes:
• The pepper and coconut oil are very important for the healing benefits of the Golden Milk, as the pepper makes the turmeric more bioavailable, and the coconut oil will help you to absorb the turmeric better.
• I prefer the fresh stuff, but you can also replace the whole spices for the ground varieties. Add to taste: cardamom (1 pinch), clove (1 pinch), cinnamon (big pinch), pepper (1 pinch), and ginger (1 pinch).
• If you do need your drink to have some sweetness, add 1/4 tsp of rice malt syrup after you’ve turned off the heat.
Enjoy your cup of healthy goodness!
